CSG FAQ

Q: How do I read my CS email using MH or EXMH?

Please note that, by default, all new CS accounts are configured so that your CS email is automatically forwarded to your @indiana.edu email address so you will not have email delivered on the CS mail server. Please see the associated FAQ for information about email forwarding on the CS systems and information on how to have your @cs.indiana.edu email delivered locally on the CS mail server.

MH (aka. NMH) is an email handling system that consists of a collection of fairly simple single-purpose programs to send, retrieve, save, and manipulate messages. EXMH is an X frontend to MH.

In order for MH to be able to incorporate (inc) new mail, the inc program must have access to your mail spool via the filesystem. To do this, you must add the following to your ~/.mh_profile configuration file:

MailDrop:/nfs/mail.cs.indiana.edu/var/spool/mail/USERNAME
You will need to replace USERNAME with your username.

Once this is done, both MH and EXMH should function properly. If you are using a mail server other than the mail CS mail server, you can replace mail.cs.indiana.edu with the name of your mail server.
